Wine
Wine covers everything from the major reference work to books that make the subject understandable for anyone who simply wants to know what they are drinking.
The World Atlas of Wine made publishing history when it first appeared in 1971 and has since sold more than five million copies. The ninth edition is the first since 2019, with revised maps, new material on the effects of climate change on viticulture and on wine growing far into northern Europe. Written by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson, it is the definitive heavyweight reference on wine.
Aaron Ayscough's The World of Natural Wine devotes 440 pages to natural wine, written by someone who neither evangelises nor sneers, with both history and a guide to producers. Jancis Robinson covers what actually matters in 112 pages in The 24 Hour Wine Expert, while Elizabeth Schneider opens up an otherwise rather insular world in Wine for Normal People without compromising on facts.
Aldo Sohm of three Michelin starred Le Bernardin writes about wine pairing in Wine Simple, while Johan Magnusson explains how to establish and maintain your own wine cellar in Trettio Vinkällare.
