In this package you get 8 wine glasses from Riedel's incredibly nice Veritas series. Not only that, you don't even pay for all but have an incredibly good price. Not only that - you also have coverage for a lot of different types of wine as the package contains four different cups with two glasses of each. Different types of wine behave very differently in different types of cups, which is now easy to detect. Drinking a fresh and tart Grüner Veltliner in a large and wide cup does not do the wine any justice at all. If you drink an elegant and nuanced Nebbiolo in a narrow and tall cup, it will be trapped and only half of what it could be in the right glass. The set's four different cups give you coverage for basically all kinds of wine (although of course there is no limit to finding the perfect cup). Rielsing - In addition to Riesling, you drink tart and fresh white wines and simple lively reds from this glass. Examples of wines that work well are riesling, zinfandel (primitivo), grüner veltliner, chianti, sancerre, montepulciano, müller thurgau, beaujolais nouveau and rosé. Oak barrel-aged Chardonnay - From this glass you drink white buttery wines that do not have the same acidity and sharpness, but are more subdued and fine-tuned like a white Burgundy. Examples of wines that do best in this cup are oaked chardonnay, mersault, montrachet, white rioja and poully-fuissé Cabernet/merlot - From this glass you drink strong red wines, for example typical Bordeaux wines or cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot , Brunello, Montepuciano and so on. Pinot noir (Old World) - From this glass you drink classic red Burgundy wines with great advantage. Suitable for example beaujolais cru, gamay, pinot noir, nebbiolo and barbaresco.
