Mouth-blown decanter from Riedel - a masterful craft!
All wines benefit from decanting. Opening the cork of the bottle is not enough for aeration, as the opening of the bottle is too small. More air is needed to really bring out the character of the wine in the best way. This is especially true for bag-in-box wines that are young and closed and therefore need to be decanted to bloom and remove sulfates. The younger the wine, the more volume is needed in the decanter. Decanting also helps to avoid precipitation that may be present at the bottom of the bottle on aged wines. Serving guests from a bag in box is not a pleasant experience. The use of a decanter significantly enhances the experience!
