In a French bistro, the house red is often served not in a stemmed glass but in a small, sturdy tumbler that can take being put down a little too hard in the middle of a heated discussion. This is that kind of glass, with four bees in relief as an extra nod to Napoleon, who was rather fond of bees.
The glass is part of the Abeille range from French glassmaker La Rochère, which has been making glass in Passavant-la-Rochère since 1475. It's made of thick pressed glass and is just as good for water, juice and milk at breakfast as for wine, pastis or a cold beer in the garden.
Six glasses per pack. Capacity 19 cl, height 10 cm, diameter 8 cm. Dishwasher safe but not microwave safe.
