These are the chopsticks you bring out when you have guests, and then wash by hand afterwards with a little extra care. Five pairs in a set, all decorated with komon, the small repeating patterns that have adorned Japanese kimono fabrics for centuries. The colours differ between the pairs, so everyone round the table can keep track of their own.
The chopsticks are made in Japan by Kawai, which is based in Obama in Fukui and has been making chopsticks since 1943. They are made of wood and lacquered in the traditional Japanese way, which gives a beautiful finish but also means they are not dishwasher safe.
Five pairs, 23 cm long.
