Not plates, not portions, but the fish whole on its platter, surrounded by the people who are going to share it. It requires the right serving piece: something long enough, stable enough and simple enough not to compete with what rests on it.
The 127 fish platter was introduced into the Alessi collection in 1963, designed by Carlo Mazzeri and Anselmo Vitale. Its oval format, elongated and carefully proportioned, is directly adapted to the task: a fish lying along the axis of the platter with room for garnish at the sides. 18/10 stainless steel with a brushed finish and mirror-polished rim. The 127/70 measures 70 × 26 cm and is made for larger occasions: bigger whole fish, longer dining tables, more guests.
The fact that the design is still in production more than sixty years later is a statement in itself. Also available in a 55 cm version for slightly smaller gatherings.
