Ramen bowl in the Minoyaki series, made of ceramic with the distinctive Eclipse White glazed finish.
The shape is classic for ramen - wide, shallow and with a slightly raised foot that provides the right angle for both broth and noodles to be served beautifully and eaten comfortably. The wide mouth allows the aroma to spread immediately when the bowl is placed in front of you, an important part of the Japanese noodle culture experience.
Minoyaki is one of Japan's most well-known ceramic traditions, originating in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture. It has been made there for over 400 years, often with experimental glazes and natural variations that give each bowl its own expression. The surface here is a deep grey-brown with light areas in the middle - like a transition between shadow and light - which subtly accentuates the color of the broth and the texture of the ramen.
The bowl holds a generous portion of ramen, but works equally well for donburi, udon, salads or serving hot dishes with lots of liquid. The sturdy piece holds heat well and is dishwasher and microwave safe, although hand washing is recommended to preserve the glaze longer.
