A magnificent frame bowl from the Minoyaki tradition in Gifu, made of stoneware with a dark, vibrant glaze that evokes the night sky and forest. The surface varies between glossy and matte, gray and deep blue, making each bowl unique. The glaze meets the light differently depending on the angle and temperature, and gives a sense of movement even when the bowl is standing still.
The shape is classic for the frame, with a wide opening and low foot that both frames the food and makes the serving stable. The wide shape allows broth, noodles and toppings to come into their own, making it equally suitable for donburi, salads or smaller servings.
Minoyaki ceramics have been made for over four centuries in the Tokyo region, and are known for their combination of rustic simplicity and technical precision. Each firing produces slight variations in glaze and texture, which is part of the soul of the craft.
