    • This pestle, called surikogi in Japanese, is used in conjunction with a suribachi - the fluted Japanese mortar. Traditionally made from natural wood that is gentle on the ceramic surface of the mortar, yet hard enough to effectively grind sesame seeds, spices, nuts or miso.

      The wood provides a light and balanced feel in the hand and contributes to a more controlled grind compared to heavier Western mortars. Surikogi is an indispensable tool in Japanese cuisine, especially when preparing goma-ae, miso dressings and other classic dishes where texture and flavor play the main role.

      Length 18 cm. Made in Japan from natural wood.
