The handle is made of lacquered beechwood, the blade is curved and 8 cm long, crafted from Sandvik stainless steel, and the brush features natural bristles along with a Viroblock safety lock. The Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel used by Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and easy maintenance. Despite being stainless, it contains at least 0.40% carbon, which delivers a highly satisfying edge and excellent resistance to rust. The Virobloc safety ring (invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel) is made of stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed and a rotating section, locking the blade in both the open position (in use) and the closed position (in transit).
