30 DAYS OPEN PURCHASEAlfonso Bialetti invented the moka pot in 1933. He was Alberto Alessi’s maternal grandfather. It is a detail that makes the commission David Chipperfield received from Alessi something more than an ordinary design assignment: to redesign an object that quite literally exists in the company’s DNA.
Chipperfield, winner of the 2023 Pritzker Prize and one of the most influential architects of our time, introduced three things. The first is the volume: DC06 has eleven sides instead of the traditional eight, a small enough departure for the form still to read as a moka pot, but distinct enough to give it a new character in the hand and in the light. The second is the lid, flat and stable, designed so cups can be warmed on top while the coffee brews. The third is the knob, positioned so the lid can be opened with one hand.
The body is cast aluminium, the handle and lid are grey thermoplastic, and the base is magnetic steel for induction compatibility. DC06/9 holds 9 cups, 450 ml. Height 20.5 cm, diameter 12 cm. Made in Italy.
