Coravin is one of our favorite products. It makes it easy to pour a glass of wine without having to open the bottle. Place the module on the neck of the bottle and insert the needle through the cork. Press the button, which creates an overpressure in the bottle, and wine comes out of the nozzle. When you pull the needle up again, the (natural) cork closes. Coravin is loaded with gas cartridges consisting of 99.99% pure argon. It is a noble gas whose atoms do not want to mix with others and therefore leave the wine unaffected. In the few seconds it takes for the cork to close, no oxygen can find its way into the bottle because argon is heavier than oxygen. Let's say you have a bottle on the shelf that you want to see if it's ready to drink now but are unsure. Then it's easy to test it using Coravin. Let's say there are two of you in a party and one wants to have a glass of Château Cheval Blanc 1947 and the other is more interested in a Cabernet Sauvignon from Foot of Africa. With the help of Coravin, you can both get a glass of your favorite without having to argue about which bottle to open!
Model Six from Coravin is one of the new improved series with reinforced and improved mounts compared to previous generations. Limited Edition Mica: IV also comes in a slightly diffuse but certainly very trendy shade. Included in the package are three canisters of gas, a case and two screw caps. You can completely ignore the fact that it is demonstrated on an empty bottle of Chardonnay in the picture.
The screw caps are used for wine bottles that already have a screw cap. Then you have to unscrew the original cork and replace it with Coravin's screw cap. This means that the wine will not be completely protected from oxygen, but it will last much longer than without action or compared to a vacuum pump.
The needle is made of stainless steel and has a non-stick coating to easily slide through the cork. It wears out over time and can then be replaced with a new needle available in different designs.
The cartridges are designed for 15 glasses of 15 cl, but this requires a perfect technique that comes with practice. A 15 cl glass takes 25 - 29 seconds to pour through a standard needle.
