Rizwan Qadery grew up in Sweden fielding the question of whether he ate a lot of curry, and twenty years later concludes that the pale cream sauce served at school had nothing to do with the food at home. The book is his introduction to Bengali cuisine, with around seventy personal recipes ranging from everyday food and street food to festive feasts. The spices are aromatic, the vegetables fresh, and the lentils a constant presence. Most of the dishes are written down exactly as they're cooked in the family, which is the whole point.
