The Manhattan is designed to last as long as its namesake, the drink served in New York bars since the late 19th century. The grooves provide a comfortable grip for your fingers even if cold contents create slippery condensation on the outside of the glass.
The glass is designed, like other Duralex glasses, to withstand freezer chilling as well as sterilization in hot machines (though not in the immediate vicinity).
