This Japanese mortar, called suribachi, is made of glazed ceramic with internal grooves that efficiently grind sesame seeds, nuts and spices without crushing them. The white exterior combines traditional function with a clean, modern aesthetic suitable for both professional kitchens and home countertops.
Used with a surikogi (wooden pestle) to create classic Japanese condiments such as goma-ae, miso dressings or kelp mixes. The grooved surface captures the ingredients and releases flavor and aroma with precision.
Diameter 18.5 cm. Made in Japan. Supplied without pestle which is purchased separately.
