This Japanese mortar, known as a suribachi, is a classic larger format model, made of glazed ceramic with internal grooves that efficiently grind seeds, nuts and spices to the perfect consistency. The warm brown glaze on the outside and the light-colored inside give it a traditional look often seen in professional Japanese kitchens.
The ribbed surface makes it easy to release flavor and aroma, whether you're preparing goma-dare, miso, tofu mixes or other sauces where the texture should be smooth but vibrant. The generous size makes it ideal for larger quantities or for use in a restaurant setting.
