This Japanese mortar, called suribachi, is made of glazed ceramic with internal grooves that make it easy to grind seeds, spices and nuts to the desired texture. The classic brown glaze gives a traditional look and is common in professional Japanese kitchens.
The grooved interior allows ingredients to be ground evenly without crushing, releasing flavor and aroma in a controlled way - perfect for goma-dare, miso or other sauces and condiments that require precision. The 27 cm size makes it useful for both small and medium quantities.
Diameter 27 cm. Made in Japan. Supplied without pestle which is purchased separately.
