This Japanese mortar, called suribachi, is made of glazed ceramic with an internally grooved surface that makes it easy to grind seeds, nuts and spices into a smooth paste. The classic brown exterior is combined with a light, unglazed interior that provides good friction and clear contrast against the ingredients.
Suribachi (すり鉢) is used together with a wooden pestle, surikogi (すりこぎ), and is an indispensable tool in Japanese kitchens, perfect for goma-dare, miso mixtures or fresh wasabi.
Diameter 15.5 cm. Made in Japan. Supplied without pestle which is purchased separately.
