About the Gourmet series from Microplane
The graters from the Gourmet series by Microplane are easy to use and with minimal effort you get very good results. When you buy something from Microplane, you can always count on good quality. They are made of high quality stainless steel in the USA and keep their sharpness for years of continuous use. A soft, ergonomic handle and a non-slip edge make it sturdy and easy to use.
The sled in the picture is not included, but since you can easily risk your fingertips when using this one, we recommend that you buy the sled here or their cut-resistant glove. We like to think of it as relatively inexpensive finger insurance.
About Microplane
The American company Microplane sets the standard when it comes to premium graters. By many chefs and pastry chefs around the world, it is seen as the obvious choice. We at KitchenLab use ours every time something needs to be grated, zested or sliced. With an iron from Microplane, you can grate most things and the blades stay sharp for an incredibly long time. The graters consist of small razor-sharp edges that are etched, rather than punched as traditional graters are.
The fact that etched blades work so well in the kitchen was discovered by a Canadian woman in 1994, when she was baking orange pie. Frustrated by the poor performance of her grater, she stole her husband's rasp from Microplane. As you can imagine, they quickly changed tack and are now a beloved tool in kitchens around the world.
The sharpness of their cut-resistant glove continues to be a popular product with us. You can find it here.
