Grandma always sifted the flour, and there was a reason. Sifted flour is lighter, free of lumps and blends more evenly with the other ingredients, which makes the sponge lighter and the cake layers more even. It's also the easiest way to mix flour with baking powder, cocoa or spices so everything is evenly distributed, and to get icing sugar to settle like a thin layer of fresh snow over a cake.
This flour sifter has a classic crank mechanism. Pour in the flour, turn the knob and let the sifter do the work, without tapping and shaking over the worktop. It holds about 7 dl, enough for most recipes in one go, and has measuring marks on the side so you can see how much you've poured in.
The sifter is made of stainless steel with a beech knob. Wash it by hand and let it dry thoroughly, as the wood doesn't like being left to soak or going in the dishwasher.
