The Danish dough whisk looks like something you found in an old blacksmith's shop and aren't quite sure what to do with. Then you mix a bread dough with it and suddenly understand why the Danes never bothered inventing anything else.
An ordinary balloon whisk and a heavy dough are not a good combination. The dough climbs in between the wires, settles in and refuses to move out. The Danish whisk has just a spiral or a couple of loops of sturdy stainless steel wire, so it cuts through the dough instead of getting stuck in it, and it's far easier to clean afterwards. It works just as well when a cream needs to be gently folded.
The range is called Laib & Seele, which is German brand Birkmann's pun on the expression mit Leib und Seele – body and soul – but with a loaf of bread instead of the body. We appreciate that kind of thing. German humour. Lovely. The whisk comes in three versions: with a spiral, with one loop and with two loops. Which one you choose is mostly a matter of taste.
Length 34 cm. Stainless steel with a beech handle. Wash by hand and dry straight away, and the handle appreciates a little cooking oil now and then.
