A choko (猪口) is the small cup used to drink sake, often accompanied by a decanter - tokkuri.
This model is made of ceramic with a deep green glaze and a rustic, lightly dotted foot that allows the clay to show through. The color is reminiscent of matcha and dark jade, bringing out the warmth of the drink as the light catches the thin glaze.
In Japan, choko is used not only for sake, but also for small tastings, dipping sauces, or as part of a formal kaiseki setting. The shape is low and round to provide a soft grip and just enough surface area for the heat of hot sake to spread without burning the hand.
In sake tastings, choko is often used in different colors to bring out the nuances of the drink, but green is a classic choice to contrast with clear sake and umami-heavy varieties like junmai or honjozo.
This version holds 50 ml - a traditional portion size - and is equally suitable for everyday serving and ceremonial presentation.
