"A small choko for sake, in blue and white glaze with handmade character. This type of cup is used for both hot (atsukan) and cold (reishu) sake, and the smaller size allows for slow drinking, with repeated refills - a way to show both appreciation and sociability.
The surface is glazed in a deep blue shade with light, almost misty white areas along the rim. This contrast emphasizes the clarity of the drink and creates an optical recess in the cup. Blue is often used in sake cups precisely to emphasize the hue of the beverage itself; in competitions and tastings, blue and white janome choko is common, but here that technique has been transferred to a more rustic, artisanal expression.
The round shape lies stably in the hand and the thin glaze gives a soft, cool feeling against the lips. Each cup varies slightly in the pattern of the glaze, which is part of its charm and an expression of Japanese wabi-sabi - the beauty of the uneven and natural.
Suitable for serving sake, but also for small amounts of vinegar, soy, or as an elegant accessory on the table."
