Medium strength smoked chili with a fruit and smoke flavor. Chipotle is a smoked chili pepper grown in Chihuahua, Mexico. Chipotle is made from moderately hot Jalapeno peppers (2,500 to 10,000 Scoville), which are allowed to ripen on the bush until they are deep red and wrinkled. The chili is then dried for several days in a wood-fired smokehouse. The flavor is a combination of strength, fruit and smoke and is typically used in salsas and marinades
