The inside is covered with a durable layer of black enamel, which both prevents the tureen from rusting and discoloration and also provides a very effective non-stick coating, which prevents the food from burning. The cast iron ensures an efficient and even heat distribution throughout the tureen.
The tureen can be used in the oven at temperatures up to 260 degrees.
Machine washable, but as some dishwasher detergents contain corrosive substances, hand washing is recommended.
