  • Information
    • "A classic Japanese cast iron takoyaki nabe - an essential tool for making the round, crispy wheat balls filled with squid that give the dish its name. Takoyaki literally means ""grilled squid"" and is one of Japan's most beloved yatai dishes, often served at markets and festivals.

The pan is made of heat-retaining cast iron that provides an even frying surface in each indentation. The mold has nine cups with generous depth that makes it easy to create perfectly round balls. The cast iron can withstand high heat, which is important when you want to get that thin, crispy surface while keeping the inside soft. The handle is integrated into the cast iron for maximum stability and longevity.

For cooking, the cups are brushed with oil and the batter is poured in until it almost overflows. The filling traditionally consists of pieces of cooked tako (squid), but shrimp, cheese, kimchi or vegetables are also used. A thin stick is used to gently turn the balls during frying - a quick operation that requires both precision and timing.

The pan can also be used to make small round pancakes, aebles, or mini balls of omelette or dough, but it is in Japanese street food that it really belongs."
