The Caretta Shellfish Cracker, steel, is suitable for crabs, lobsters and other hard-shelled shellfish.
We've been eating shellfish since before it made sense to talk about "Nordic cuisine". But although crabs, lobsters and crayfish are not exactly new acquaintances, our way of opening up to tasty and exclusive seafood meat has hardly evolved since the Stone Age. Pipe wrenches, nutcrackers, hammers and breadsticks are all used when seafood comes to the table. But there is hope for the future, and the solution comes from Sweden - one of the most seafood-loving countries in the world.
Inventor Erik von Schoultz has quickly become known for his innovative Drosselmeyer nutcracker, which has won several international design awards. Together with designer Joakim Norin, he has developed a shellfish cracker that takes us out of the Stone Age and into the millennium of mechanics when it comes to preparing seafood.
The shellfish cracker works according to the lever principle and is made of stainless steel. It is produced under environmentally friendly conditions in Sweden.
The name of the shellfish crusher is inspired by the Latin name of a special species of sea turtle known for its appetite for shellfish and for its hard bite - in fact, there are examples of "Caretta Caretta" sea turtles moving easily on steel cables if they get in the way - something you can well imagine when you see its namesake.
