Bamboo tongs are one of those tools that almost disappear in your hand.
They barely weigh anything, but provide full control when flipping skewers, lifting tempura, or handling small pieces of fish or vegetables where metal would be too hard.
Bamboo's natural springiness allows the tongs to spring back to their origin without a mechanism or hinge, giving a direct and precise feel to the grip.
This model is 25 cm long, long enough to work comfortably near heat but short enough to be used when laying out. It works equally well at the grill, serving or in the kitchen, and is particularly popular in Japanese restaurants where small components are worked on a hot surface.
Bamboo does not conduct heat, is odorless and does not affect delicate ingredients - which is why it is often used in place of metal tongs in sushi kitchens and tempura stations.
Over time, bamboo takes on a slight darkening and a slight sheen from use, which only improves the grip. Rinse in cold water and leave to dry in an airy place, and it will last for many years.
