A bamboo ramen spoon, or ramen renge, is a classic tool in Japanese noodle houses. Used to scoop up both broth and noodles without burning your fingers, its shape perfectly balances the roundness of the bowl with the depth of the soup. Where Western soup ladles are often too heavy or deeply bowled, the ramen renge is light, wide and shallow - making it possible to get liquid, noodles and toppings in the same motion.
This model is made from bamboo with a hand-carved wooden ladle. The combination makes it both lightweight and heat resistant, and also completely natural in feel to ceramic and broth. The handle is long and square, which provides better grip and stability even when wet.
The bamboo is untreated and over time develops a light patina that many chefs prefer because it does not affect the taste.
Ramen renge is not only used for ramen, it works just as well for udon, soba, miso soup or stews. It also has a place in donburi dishes, where a metal spoon is easily alienated by wood and rice.
Hand wash and wipe dry after use. For longer life, it can be lightly oiled with neutral cooking oil occasionally.
