A stainless steel tray designed to hold Japanese mise en place containers - the yakumi setup you have seen in every ramen shop and sushiya, where a chef flips open the lid, grabs exactly the right garnish and closes it again in two seconds. The tray comes with a lid. The containers are sold separately, so you build your own perfect layout.
The system is simple: one L-container takes the footprint of two S-containers, and you can mix them however you like (we don't judge). The possibilities are not quite endless but impressively large - by our calculations the XL tray alone allows seven different combinations, or 233 if you count the layout. Yes, we did the math. No, we are not sorry.
Made by Clover in 18-8 stainless steel of ridiculously high quality. Dishwasher safe, naturally, though the manufacturer does not recommend oven or microwave use. Lid on, into the fridge. Lid off, straight into cooking.
It is also a quietly brilliant way to serve: vegetable sticks with dip, taco night toppings, or a childhood favourite of ours - "Bombay Curry", rice and minced meat buried under grated coconut, mango, raisins and every topping the seventies could offer.
Available in four sizes: Tray S holds 2 L-containers or 4 S-containers. Tray M holds 3 L or 6 S. Tray L holds 4 L or 8 S. Tray XL holds 6 L or 12 S. Containers sold separately.
